The essays and photographs exhibited on this website are a serialized prequel to\u00a0the book. It provides resources and examples for the context-vetting process and for understanding how one era, object, or generation informs the next.\u00a0<\/p><p>This beautiful full-color book illustrates how we can understand\u2014or unlock\u2014 a public place, neighborhood, or city. Based on comparative experiences around the world, the book proposes a new tool\u2014called LEARN (<em>L<\/em>ook,\u00a0<em>E<\/em>ngage,\u00a0<em>A<\/em>ssess,\u00a0<em>R<\/em>eview, and\u00a0<em>N<\/em>egotiate) \u2014as a way of sustaining urban culture and character in transformative times.<\/p><p>Inspired by recent efforts and outcomes, the book is full of relevant examples.
