Breaking news, in two parts. Firstly, there’s an epic reunion pending for Home Improvement stars Tim Allen and Richard Karn, in a new History Channel series. Secondly, the show, Assembly Required, shares themes with our book, and many of today’s hot themes in placemaking and urbanism.

Moreover, the show’s American premiere almost exactly coincides with the release of Sustaining a City’s Culture and Character. Consequently, in a Zoom conference with Karn, we discussed the show’s new sustainable, “repair v. replace” orientation. This, and other topics easily extrapolate from home to community.

In the video, we address how to remake homes and cities, and the related role of the mind’s eye. We chat about history, what we expect from places, travel in ordinary times, and, most importantly, high school memories.

Assembly Required premieres in America on February 23. See the show’s new promo, below.
